Muscogee County School Board Receives Recognition Today

The Muscogee County School Board will be honored today in Atlanta for becoming a 2009 Georgia School Board of Distinction. To receive the distinction, a local Board of Education must complete a series of tasks, which include undergoing a self-assessment and having a committee from the community apply a set of standards to the Board. The Board must also develop an action plan to meet areas identified as weaknesses.
Upon the news of the honor, Superintendent Dr. Susan Andrews said, "Our Board of Education has worked extremely hard in the past eleven months to complete these tasks and to serve with distinction in an effort to receive this recognition. I hope the community has noticed their efforts and will congratulate the Board on this accomplishment”.

According to the Muscogee County School District, the following criteria must be met in order to be designated a Board of Distinction by the Georgia School Boards Association:

Criteria to achieve Board of Distinction

BOE And system are not on probation from SACS/CASI or any other accreditation organization.
Must have met criteria of Standards for Local Board of Education.
Implement GSBA Board/Leadership Team Self-Assessment Checklist.
Formalize superintendent evaluation incorporating district goals.
A copy of, or a web link to, the board’s goal-setting model and listing of district’s goals.
A web link to the local district’s policy manual that is posted on the internet.
A web link to posting of monthly board meeting agendas online.
A plan for technology integration at the school board governance level of the local district.
This refers to school board members and how the board is integrating technology in their governance operations.
Signature on “Form to Begin Board of Distinction Process.”
Complete “Form to Verify Compliance with Board of Distinction.”
