It seems like everyday we hear about companies laying off employees or closing up shop all together.
But tonight we have the story of a local company that's exceeding all the odds in this economy.
We take a look at the secret behind their success.
There's no shortage of work at Industrial Metal Fabricators in Columbus.
In fact, there's more work than they can handle.
Despite the economy, the company is having the best year they've ever had in their 50 year history.
“We recognize that we are in a very blessed position, and we don't know how long it will hold up,” says CEO Bob Gilson.
The company is taking advantage of their demand.
Industrial Metal Fabricators uses heavy sheet metal to make containers to hold turbines.
The turbines are then used to power energy plants.
So what's the secret to this company’s success?
Gilson says it's all about who they serve.
The company serves the power generation and water filtration markets; and they are booming.
As long as we use water and power, the company’s services are in demand.
Because of the high demand workers have been working overtime; some close to 60 hours per week.
“On one side, I think it's unfortunate that we are spending so many hours, on the other side, I don't know what we would do with all that time at home,” jokes Gilson.
“I can get over being tired, but I cannot get over being unemployed,” say long time employee Rockie Martinez.
“We're enjoying what we have but always looking over our shoulder to see what may be coming,” says Gilson.
The company is looking to hire.
We're on your side with what they are looking for and how to apply.
Gilson says they are looking for welder fabricators, specifically those who know how to work with different kinds of metals.
