Ft. Benning Activates Maneuver Center of Excellence

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

One flag cased up, one flag uncased. The ceremony at Fort Benning officially recognized the transition of the U.S. Army Infantry Center to the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

Fort Benning Commanding General Maj. Gen. Michael Ferriter revealed the center's new slogan: "One force, one fight."

Behind the transition is the consolidation of the U.S. Army Armor School, previously home to Fort Knox, Ky, and the Infantry School at Fort Benning. However, both branches will continue their present operations at their respective posts until federal law requires they fully move on September 15, 2011.

The merging is part of BRAC, or the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Act. As a result of BRAC, at least 11,000 jobs will open up and the Fort Benning population will absorb 30,000 additional military personnel.
