Unconfirmed reports are circulating that a bull shark was spotted in the Chattahoochee this morning. An un-sourced story says a Columbus fisherman broke his line fishing in the river. A runner came up and tried to help him when they both saw a shark fin.
The story caused onlookers to try and see if they could spot the animal themselves. But a shark in the Chattahoochee??
Well that’s what some say tugged on a Columbus fisherman's pole Monday morning. “Do you think there’s a shark in the Chattahoochee?”
“I wouldn't be surprised - I guess it could make its way up here, said CSU student Chelsea Buttram.
The supposed shark has created media frenzy. texts, Facebook and tweets have all been sent out about the fish tailed creature.
Kamille Walter read the story on Facebook. “I have a lot of classmates and it came up on Facebook real quick so we wanted to check it out”, she said.
Some spectators took it into their own hands by trying to fish whatever it was right out.
"I heard there is a shark so i came out here to see if i could catch him, said shark hopeful Clifford Welch.
“Any luck?”
“No not yet but if I see him I’m going to catch him,” he says.
But some say the story is just too fishy sounding.
"Someone local wanting to stir up media for the area,” said skeptic Scott Lewis.
