Investigators are saying that an elementary school student was approached for a ride on her way to school Friday morning. She took off running and found a police officer who then took her to Lonnie Jackson Academy.
The suspect in this attempted abduction was driving a large green SUV with Auburn stickers on the back window. Police say no weapon was used.
This comes just two days after an East Columbus middle-school students was abducted at gunpoint on her way to school and sexually assaulted at nearby Belvedere Park. Police continue to follow leads in the case. At this time, police do not know if the two incidents are related or not.
Police are still looking for the suspect in the first incident: He is reportedly a black male in his twenties, around 5’11" and 6’ with a slender built, close-shave and haircut. He was wearing dark denim pants, white tennis shoes, a black thermal long-sleeved shirt with a red t-shirt over it. There may have been a symbol on the back pocket of his pants. He was believed to be driving a gold or tan Dodge Durango or similar vehicle with a black interior.
