Two officers in Stewart County, Georgia are no longer on the force over a stun gun incident. Ryan Smith of the Lumpkin Police Department has resigned and Tim Murphy of Richland P.D. was fired. Janice Wells, 57, claims she was zapped repeatedly with a stun gun when she called to complain about a prowler.
Authorities released the dashboard video from Smith’s patrol car. Wells can be heard on tape screaming “don’t do that” as a stun gun is heard repeatedly zapping. Authorities say the April 26 struggle began when Wells wouldn’t tell police the name of an acquaintance who had been at her house. News 3 submitted an open records request for video of the incident last week.
We’ll bring you that story tonight on News 3 Evening Edition and News 3 Nightwatch.
