The Chilean earthquake was felt here in East Alabama and West Central Georgia...of couse we couldn't quite feel it.
However, the seismometer at the Coca-Cola Space and Science Center felt the 8.8 magnitude quake. In fact, Michael Johnson, an educator at Science Center, says the Chilean Earthquake was so strong the aftershocks were meausured in Columbus for nearly four hours after the initial earthquake.
In addition, he says if you're concerned about an earthquake in East Alabama and West Central Georgia, you don't need to worry:
"We're not out the woods but it's not our main concern as far as natural disasters would go. I'd be more scared of tornadoes or something of that sort."
