Two Marion County Inmate Escapees Back In Jail

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says the search is over for two escaped inmates.

Sunday around ten p.m., Marion County Sheriff Horace Snider was informed that two inmates took off from the jail.

The Sheriff said 21 year old Corey Lyles and 19 year old Cedrick Wimbush made off in the night with nothing but the clothes on their back.

"They did not have shirts on they had the prison uniforms on that was striped, so they turned them inside out so the stripes would not show." Said Sheriff Snider.

The Marion County Sheriff said the inmates were able to escape because the jailer on duty did not follow proper procedure.

"Supposedly Winbush asked to get a book to read and instead of getting the book and giving it to him, he let him come out of the cell and at that time he left the cell doors open and him and Lyles ran out the front door." Said Snider.

This is not the first time Lyles has escaped from police custody. The Sheriff said back in July, Lyles escaped during a prison work detail. However, this time Lyles did not make it far. The Marion County Sheriff said the public helped put him back behind bars this morning.

"We got a call that one of them was walking the railroad tracks, I was in the area, spotted him, jumped out and chased him down." Said Snider.

The Marion County Sheriff Office found Wimbush later in the afternoon.

The Sheriff said the jailer on duty who made the mistake in procedure will be dealt with soon.
