“They were already set up and ready for us here. As soon as we got here housing was easy to fall into. Everything kind of just fell unto place. It was really an easy move,” Sergeant Keith Durgin said.
Sergeant Durgin, his wife Felicia, and their 3 year old son, Aiden, moved to Fort Benning at the end of July. Keith is part of a unit that plans weapons ranges for soldiers. He is in charge of establishing contacts for his unit and learning Fort Benning's rules and regulations.
Felicia is 7 months pregnant with their daughter Aurora. She said they are still trying to develop relationships in the community. “He only works with a handful of people so we don't really know that many people, but we know a lot of our friends are going to be here between now and next summer.”
So while they're sort of in limbo, Felicia said they'll enjoy what this community has to offer, like shopping, restaurants, and entertainment options in Columbus...all reasons the Durgins may stick around when this tour is up. SGT Keith Durgin said, “I don't see anything that would stop us from staying here permanently. I mean I'm no where’s near retirement, but I know a lot of people that are coming down here to retire with my regiment. And other people who have moved other places and come back here to Georgia.”
