U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop Jr. of District 2 in Georgia and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) sponsored a forum at Columbus Technical College on Friday.

Bishop says, “This forum is designed to make sure that people in our area have the information, the technical assistance and the resources to make that small business engine work…work for us and put Americans back to work."

Small businesses make up 99% of all employers.

43% of the nation’s payroll comes from companies with less than 500 employees.

People at the seminar learned about a number of free government resources, including, how to start, grow and finance small businesses.

The SBA is available to help more than 175,000 companies in Georgia, as well as aspiring CEOs.

Cassius Butts, SBA Regional Administrator, says the organization gives people the opportunity to talk about their business plans and provides mentors to guide them through the process of starting or growing their companies.

Free business planning and marketing is also available.

Work is going on at the national level to promote growth as well.

Congressman Bishop says, “We've had a number of pieces of legislation to enhance small business... in terms of their access to capital... incentives to hire... folks who have been unemployed.”

You can find out more about free resources by visiting the Small Business Administration website.
