The search for a missing pregnant Auburn mother has come to an end with human remains linked to her murder and her boyfriend under arrest.
31 year old Cherri Dawson was last seen by family and friends on Saturday October 8th. The next day her vehicle was discovered.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said while the car Cherri Dawson was driving in was found burned in Chambers County on County Road 95 investigators don't believe she was murdered there.
“We do believe the murder occurred in Tallapoosa County,” said Chief Dawson.
Chief Dawson said around a dozen law enforcement agencies helped in the search but it was in Tallapoosa County where the next piece of evidence was found.
“On October 25th Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office headed by Sheriff Jimmy Abbett located some remains near Camp Hill Alabama," said Chief Dawson.
After the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences determined this Monday that the remains were those of the 5 month pregnant Dawson, an arrest warrant was issued for 30 year old Keith Lemar Ware.
“I don't believe he was an ex-boyfriend they were currently in a relationship and it’s believed she was carrying his child,” said Chief Dawson.
The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office arrested Keith Ware of Lafayette, Alabama without incident at work in Opelika Tuesday. Ware will be held without bond at the Tallapoosa County Jail. He faces one count of capital murder.
Chief Dawson said investigators have evidence connecting Ware to the murder of Dawson but he couldn't share it.
“We don't want to speculate at this time as to a motive it’s an ongoing investigation we're still working together and we will be for some time to come,” said Chief Dawson.
Dawson's family said Cherri also has a seven year old son. Chief Dawson said on behalf of all of the participating agencies in the search their thoughts are with the family.
“We just hope we can bring some closure and hope the family will be comforted tonight knowing that we have made an arrest in this case,” said Chief Dawson.
Funeral arrangements for Cherri Dawson are incomplete at this time.
