Holiday Traffic Crackdown

The roadways are starting to fill with drivers heading to their holiday destinations and the roadways are full of state troopers slowing them down.
The crackdown by the Georgia State Patrol officially kicks off tonight at 6:00 and will go until midnight on Sunday.

State Trooper Glenn Hand says they are looking for speeders, reckless drivers and those who aren’t wearing seat belts; all common factors in deadly crashes.
“With the amount of vehicles out here, you could strike someone else, injure them or even kill them,” says Hand.

The state patrol says last year there were more than 1,800 crashes over the holiday weekend.
22 people were killed last year in traffic accidents, two of the deaths were alcohol related.
The State Patrol expects similar numbers this year.

“Have your head on a swivel, watch everything that’s going on around you, someone may run a red light, be prepared to take action,” says Hand.

The State Patrol reminds drivers to report any suspected drunk drivers you may see on the roadways this weekend, just dial 477 from your cell phone.
