Russell county authorities aren’t calling it a crime wave, but they’ve made several burglary and theft arrests in a Fort Mitchell neighborhood. Some living in the newer middle class neighborhood are concerned. Gizella Cane, a mother of three and an army wife is one of them. She lives in the Village at Westgate subdivision. Authorities say juveniles have broken into some of the homes in recent weeks. “And you know I take it seriously because someone could get injured. You don’t ask somone how old you are when they brake into your home. You protect whats inside your home, your kids and family come first” Cane said. Two weeks ago several teenagers broke into some homes and stole electronic equipment such as video games and other items at the Village at Westgate. The teens were caught and arrested. Later in an unrelated incident, someone stole equipment from a construction site in the same neighborhood. Jonathan Evans and Albert Evans were both arrested and charged with burglary. Authorities say the neighborhood is safe and residents should not be alarmed. Many military families live in the Village at Westgate.
