Auburn 4-H Flag on Space Shuttle
Published: July 16, 2009
A 17-year-old Auburn student is behind a 4-H flag flying aboard the space shuttle on its new mission. Azeem Ahmed says he got the idea while serving on the National 4-H Conference Program Committee.
He wanted other people to know about 4-H, and he began writing e-mails and making phone calls. Ahmed met NASA officials through his father, Anwar Ahmed, who is an aerospace engineering faculty member at Auburn University.
Astronaut Stephen Robinson, who worked with Ahmed’s father at NASA’s Langley Research Center, helped coordinate getting the flag into space.
