Some would call his proposal controversial…
Should the children of illegal immigrants be granted U.S citizenship if they were born in this country?
U.S. Representativem, and gubernatorial candidate, Nathan Deal says no.
Deal, a republican out of Gainesville, has been pushing the Birthright Citizenship bill since
2003.
As the law stands today, children of illegal immigrants who are born in The United States are given U.S. citizenship.
Deal wants that changed; he believes children of illegal immigrants should not be given citizenship.
Deal says children should only be given that status if at least one of their parents is a citizen or if they serve in the military.
Deal said he not opposed to immigration, he just believes there needs to be a more orderly process in place.
