Georgia County Cuts Check to Compensate Homeless Man

ATLANTA (AP) - DeKalb County was forced to pay a homeless man
$165,000 after it settled a lawsuit accusing an officer of dumping
him in a neighboring county.
Robert Williams asked a Dekalb County police officer who found
him sleeping behind a restaurant five years ago to arrest him.
Instead the officer put Williams in his car and dropped him off in
neighboring Rockdale County.
The county cut Williams the check on Oct. 6 to settle a lawsuit
that claimed the officer had violated his civil rights.
DeKalb public safety director William Miller blamed the incident
on a “rogue officer” and said the county never had a policy of
“mistreating homeless persons.“
