Some indications of carbon monoxide poisoning in deaths of Phenix City grandfather, grandson

Carbon monoxide poisoning may be the cause of the deaths of 86-year-old Lawrence Nathan and 39-year-old Lawrence Walker last week, according to Russell County coroner Arthur Sumbry.

The grandfather and grandson were discovered last Tuesday after a neighbor called and alerted police that she hadn’t seen them in a while.

The men were found in a bedroom of their shared Phenix City home on Second Street South.

Captain Frank Ivey of the Phenix City Police Department said that family members told investigators that the grandfather had taken care of his grandson for a while, as a result of blindness from a brain tumor.

Preliminary autopsy results are pending.
