Students and Teachers Tour WHINSEC
As SOA protestors prepare for the weekend's events, a small group of students and teachers talk to WHINSEC, or Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, directly for a panel discussion...A group of about 30 students and teachers from around the country took WHINSEC up on its open-door policy.
Lee Rials of WHINSEC gave a brief presentation on the organization’s ideals and courses taught. Students worked up the courage to ask questions of the WHINSEC officials, and by the end of the hour, many conversations continued into the hallway of the classroom module.
“I think in order for true dialogue to start you need to have a conversation,“ said Michael Fitzgerald, a high school theology teacher from Massachusetts.
A former SOA employee and current WHINSEC employee of 22 years, Joseph Leuer helped field questions from students and teachers.
“The students make us think, definitely,“ Leuer said.
