New Georgia Laws Take Effect July 1

One new law deems dependent children of military personnel on active duty stationed in Georgia as residents for purposes of receiving the Hope scholarship.  Another bill affecting students is called the “Move on When Ready Act.“  It allows eleventh and twelfth graders to attend college for high school course credit.  Yet another law allows students to administer epi-pens at school for severe allergic reactions.  A teacher who receives a salary increase for having achieved national board certification will not receive the increase if they leave a teaching position after March 1, 2009.  A new law exempts business inventory from state ad valorem tax.  Beginning July first Georgia citizens must provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote thanks to a new law.  These are just a sampling of recently passed legislation that takes effect starting in July.
