K-4, the age of pigtails, ribbons, and little fingers gripping number two pencils. If you’re a student in Tiffany Head’s classsroom, it’s where numbers are fun and reading is even more fun. “They have so much energy and they’re always ready for the next thing. What can we do? What are we going to learn today? They love school. As the kids get older you don’t see that excitement much,” says the Glenwood teacher.
Mrs. Head says books are a source of all of the excitement. “The kids feel like they’ve really accomplished something when they can read,” says Head.
Tiffany Head’s goal is for the kids to read one or two books each week and given their enthusiasm, that will be easy. However, the job does come with its challenges. “Coming up with new ways to teach the same thing. With this age group you’ve gotta make it fun. You’ve gotta turn it into a game,“ says Head.
Head was nominated because of her creative style of teaching and her dedication to her kids and the teaching profession as a whole. She knows that what she does is more than a job. “ It’s getting them prepared to go out into the world. I think teachers are the biggest influence on that.
