Harris County Teacher Wins MEA Golden Apple Award

Will Yeiser, 8, had the privilege of presenting his third grade teacher, Joy Forlines with the MEA Golden Apple Award. It’s only fitting that Will make the presentation. After all, it was his mom who nominated her. “I’m sure you other teachers out there are good, but guess what, Mrs. Forlines is good and a little wonderful,” says Will.
Joy Forlines is in her seventh year at Mulberry Creek Elementary School in Harris County where she teaches third grade. In her eyes, this is the perfect age group. “They’re a little more independent and able to do a little bit more and just still have a very sweet spirit and are eager to learn and I love that about this age,” says Forlines.
And her students think the world of her.  Trevor Coates, 9, says “She’s like the best teacher I’ve ever had.”  Another student, Jessica Moore, 8, says “She loves to make stuff fun for you where you’re really learning but you’re having fun.”
“ I do joke around a lot and let them joke around but you have to teach them to learn to use their humor in the proper way and the proper time, but still you can make it fun,” says
Forlines.

Why did Will’s mom nominate Mrs. Forlines? For several reasons..among them her perfect balance of compassion and discipline.
