Leading the band, there’s no place Kathy Christopher would rather be.

“I just think it’s something that all kids need is music.  I think it’s an extra outlet,” she said.

Ms. Christopher has taught in Marion County her entire career.

“I just feel like for a small band we really are blessed with a lot of good students who have a lot of talent,” she said.

“She’s a big impact and a big role model. I can go to talk to her about anything and she will listen.  And she will give me back advice,” said Timiquanna Jones, a band member.

“She taught my mother and now I’m in this band and she’s teaching me, so she’s been a great influence on my life,” said student Ishmael McKinstry.

Ms. Christopher strikes a common chord with her students and it shows.

“I feel like a lot of them might not have stuck with music if I had not stuck with them,” she said.
