For 28 years, Carolyn Biggers has been doing what she loves. “As long as I’m on this earth, I believe I’ll be teaching in some capacity because it’s a job I truly enjoy,” says the Special Education teacher at Marion Middle school. She was nominated for the MEA Golden Apple Award for her ability to bring out the best in her students.
Biggers has six students this year. What they lack in number, they more than make up in their hunger for knowledge. “I learned time tables, I learned different things in reading, my vocabulary and I learned different things in math like exponents,” says 8th grader Michelle Bullard.
For Carolyn Biggers , her kids are the reason she looks forward to getting up every morning. “If we could make them feel good and comfortable and safe then that’s a job well done for that day. Tomorrow we’ll pick up with academics. So I look forward to working with the children because they’re a joy.”
And that’s why retirement is out of the question. That makes Michelle very happy. “’Cause I get to see my favorite teacher in the whole universe.”
