Lyn Pharris has been the band director at Veterans Memorial Middle School since the school opened three years ago.
She teaches grades 6 through 8. Pharris’ band consistently gets a superior rating in band competitions, scoring as a high as the high school bands.
Pharris says it’s a great thing when you can go to work and actually enjoy your job. “It’s just so much fun working with them because when they get it, you know the eyes light up. They get so excited when they come to band and it’s just a joy to teach these students.“
Pharris has been teaching for fourteen years. She was inspired by her high school band director.
Pharris was nominated by one of her students. Candice Onukwue writes “ Mrs. Pharris makes band really fun. She makes sure we know all our notes and that we get them. We play fun music and she does imitations all the time which makes us laugh…She is an amazing band teacher and this award would really prove it.”
