Jimmy Carter POTUS Day
Jimmy Carter POTUS DayOn this President’s Day, about 300 people had the opportunity to enjoy the holiday and spend it with a former president.
Hundreds gathered to listen to the 39th president look back in time and reflect on being what some would say the most powerful man in the world.
“I have to say, it’s an emotional thing. There’s a tiny fraternity of so far all men there’s just five of us, and when we get together we’re always very friendly, we share experiences, we sympathize with each other and brag on each other,“ Carter said.
By his side was his wife of more than 60 years Rosalynn, who never imagined as a young girl in Plains, that this would one day be her home.
“It’s an incredible experience, and of course one that totally changed my life. I have a different outlook on almost everything,“ Mrs. Carter said.
Mrs. Carter told News 3 about her first thoughts when she moved into the most famous address in the world, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
“I get emotional thinking about it now because I was thinking Jimmy Carter is president and our country is safe. I was so secure,“ she said.
News 3 asked Mrs. Carter what it’s like being married to a president.
“He’s romantic, and he’s just so interested in everything. We do things I’d never have done if I were not married to Jimmy Carter. I started skiing when I was 59 years old. We do birdwatching and flyfishing,“ she said.
