Johnson died in Afghanistan on July 6th from an improvised explosive device.

Johnson was known as “Chip” to his close family and friends. On a day where many people would be sad and mournful, many of his family members say this is a day to celebrate his life.

As family members waited to walk into Johnson’s funeral, some of them wanted the public to know that he was a hero.

“ When you met him, you always felt that he was a friend, he never made you feel like a stranger,“ his cousin Altheira Davis said.

And when you looked around the church at specialist Isaac Johnson’s funeral, it was obvious that he touched the lives of many.

“He always had a smile on his face, there was never a dull moment around Issac,“ his Aunt described.

Johnson followed in the footsteps of his father and many other family members. His aunt and cousin say it speaks highly about his character.

“He wanted to do something for his country and he wanted to make a difference in his life as well as everybody’s life.“

“To know that he did something for his country is something that we can all leave here happy about.“

That is why they decided to call this day a celebration.

“It’s a sad time for all of us but it’s a time to celebrate, to celebrate his life and our love for him.“
