Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor will be touring Fort benning today. He’s here to see the construction sites for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). Those sites are on the Main Post, at Infantry Hall, and the Armour School headquarters building. Earlier this week, Ft. Benning Commanding General Michael Ferriter and Major General James Milano from Fort Knox spoke at the Warfighting Conference about BRAC. The two generals have partnered
to prepare for the move of the Armor School to Fort Benning. The first wave from Fort Knox should roll into Fort Benning in October or November of 2010.
About $1.2 billion in property will move, not to mention more than six decades of historic equipment and documents. The entire BRAC process
should be complete by mid-September 2011.
