HONOR FLIGHT SENDING WWII VETS TO THEIR MEMORIAL

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The volunteer group called Honor Flight of West Georgia is raising the estimated $68,000 to charter a jet to fly from Columbus to Washington on September 22.  The flight is free for the veterans.  They will be accompanied by about 50 guardians who will assist the veterans during their trip.  The guardians will pay their own expenses of $400 each.  Royce Ard is the general manager of Knology of Columbus.  He’s on the local Honor Flight board of directors.  He says top priority will be given to WWII veterans and veterans of more recent conflicts who may be terminally ill.  Ard says, “The Honor Flight program is a great way to give back to our local members of America’s Greatest Generation.“  Applications for veterans wishing to make the trip are available on the West Georgia Honor Flight website www.wgahonorflight.org. Those wishing to apply to be a guardian may also do so on the website.  Volunteers are needed to help with day-of activities.  Donations are welcomed from those wishing to support the cause.  Contributions are tax deductible.
