Heart Disease of Particular Importance to Women
Heartdisease
Heart Disease Awareness. You’ll be seeing red on February 5th. That’s because women and men all across the country will don the bright hue for Wear Red for Women Day. It’s an effort to raise awareness about heart disease, which is the number one killer of women. According to Deanna Robinson, the Director of Imaging Services and Noninvasive Cardiology at St. Francis Hospital, heart disease kills more women than the next five health problems that follow, including cancer. Robinson tells us that the top five risk factors for heart disease are all preventable.
Those are:
Tobacco use
Diabetes
Hypertension
Obesity
High cholesterol
Robinson also gave us a list of symptoms that can help you determine if you are having a heart attack.
The most common symptoms are chest pain and discomfort.
Women are more likely to experience pain in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath
Cold sweats, nausea, or vomiting.
St. Francis Hospital will host its annual Heart Truth for Women Luncheon on February the 11th. It will be 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke Ministry Center. You can purchase tickets by phone at (706) 596-4070 or online athttp://www.wecareforlife.com”> http://www.wecareforlife.com.
