Disabilities

October is National Disability Employment Awareness month and one of our viewers wanted to know how friendly Columbus is to those with disabilities.

For the answer we turned to a member of the executive council of The Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities, Kriss Anne Carlstrom.

The Committee acts as a liaison between citizens with disabilities and the city government.  The MCPD has been instrumental to programs like Dial-A-Ride, Ms. Wheelchair Georgia and Accessibility Awareness seminars for area businesses.

Carlstrom says she believes Columbus is a friendly city and MCPD is teaming up with local employers to create an even better environment.  She also says the downtown revitalization project includes curb cut outs to make it easier for those with disabilities to get around downtown.
You can find out more my logging onto MCPD.
