Hornets Buzzing To Start 2009

Opelika, AL - Just because they are one of the smallest 5A schools in the state, that does not make Beauregard the little kids on the block. Head Coach Smitty Grider says it’s all 5A.

“We don’t talk about being a small 5A, the coaches don’t talk to the kids about it, we are just a 5A program,“ Grider said. “There is nothing we can do about it, so we won’t cry about it, we deal with the numbers, and I think we’ve got a good football team.“

The Hornets finished one game out of the playoffs last year, and that has pushed them through summer workouts. “Our kids know we were that close, we went 4-3 and that was tied in the region but lost a tie-breaker, the kids realize how close we were and that was motivation to work hard,“ Girder said.

Offensively, the Hornets will start sophomore Charles Flloyd behind center, but surround him with returning players at running back, wide receiver, and on the offensive line.

The Hornets host Russell County to start the season.
