Busy Saturday At Columbus State

Columbus, GA - A pair of Columbus State University programs will make it a busy Saturdy for CSU athletics on October 10. The day begins with the Cougar Invitational cross-country meet in Smiths Station, AL, and culminates in a late-afternoon soccer match with Peach Belt Conference rival Armstrong Atlantic State.
At the Cougar Invitational, the men’s race begins at 9:00 AM (EDT) and will feature a men’s fleet that has placed 1st and 2nd in the first two races of the year. Meshack Koyiaki and Nicholas Kering have finished first and second individually in both of those races and are looking forward to a jaunt around their home course. The CSU women’s team has placed 4th and 6th in its two meets this season and has been led by junior runner Brittney Skiles in both events.
The soccer match later in the day has been circled on calendars for quite a while. CSU and AASU started soccer programs about the same time and each has experienced a multitude of success in a short time. Ranked #3 in the nation in the latest NSCAA/Adidas poll, CSU Women’s Soccer currently possesses an impressive 10-0-1 record coming off a three-win week during which they bested Georgia Southwestern, Lincoln Memorial and Queens University - all on enemy ground. The Lady Cougars are 3-0 in PBC play so far this season. AASU enters the contest ranked #20 in the nation and sports a 10-1-2 record and a 6-0 conference mark.
CSU has won all seven meetings between the two, but all but one of the games has been by a one-goal margin. The last three meetings, including last year’s PBC Tournament semifinal game, have been decided in overtime. CSU won that meeting 1-0 in the first extra frame and also won last year’s regular season meeting by a 3-2 score in overtime.
Kickoff is set for 4 PM at the Walden Soccer Complex.
