Columbus, GA - The Columbus Cottonmouths welcome back a pair of defensemen, as Will Barlow and Kyle Lundale have re-signed for the upcoming season.
Barlow enters his third season with the Snakes. The Oakville, Ontario native came to Columbus in December 2007, and in 91 total games with the Snakes, he has registered 17 points and 144 penalty minutes. Prior to his professional career, Barlow played four seasons at SUNY-Fredonia, picking up 29 points in 83 games over his collegiate career.
“At the end of last season, Will really came into his own and became a go-to guy in the playoffs,” head coach Jerome Bechard said. “I expect that to carry over into this season, and for him to continue being a quiet leader in the locker room.”
Lundale came to the Snakes last year after starting the season with the Knoxville Ice Bears.  The Manitoba native made an immediate impact, registering four assists in his first five games. He went on to pick up 27 points in 46 games, and was named to the 2008-09 All-SPHL rookie team. Lundale finished as the league’s top-ranked defenseman in +/- rating with +18, and he ranked 12th among all defensemen in points scored with 27.
“I’m looking forward to having Kyle here from the start of the season, and I anticipate him building upon his successful rookie season.” Bechard said.
The Snakes have now signed nine forwards, three defensemen and a goalie to camp for the upcoming season. Training camp opens Monday, Oct. 12, with a home exhibition game schedule against the Huntsville Havoc Friday, Oct. 16. Tickets are $5 and general admission seating. The Snakes open the regular season at home Friday, Oct. 23 against the Fayetteville FireAntz, with the first 2500 fans receive a magnetic schedule, courtesy of TIC Federal Credit Union.
