Stinking up Summer Travel

The swine flu might be putting a kink in some summer plans.  Here at WRBL I know of at least two Mexican vacations that are in jeaopardy.

Travel agents around town tell me they are optimistic this will pass and the Mexican Riveria will bounce back, but only time will tell at this point.

Today I worked with a couple of different travel agents to get a feel for their client reaction.  One agent told me they actually have several clients in Mexico at the moment, and so far no news is good news.  In fact, the same agent told me he just booked a honeymom to Cancun today (but of course it was for October).

I spent about roughly an hour at the AAA in Columbus and during that time six different people came in asking about travel, at least four for a cruise in the next few months.

Folks may be wary to cross the border, but we all know that the itch for the vacation doesn’t go away until you are actually on the beach somewhere. Send us your pictures!

We All Scream

We All Scream

Blue Bell Ice Cream stopped by the station today to show off their new flavor “Groom’s Cake.” They also gave us a bunch of other flavors, I went with straight up homemade vanilla, but everyone seemed to like Groom’s Cake. It is chocolate, with some cake pieces, and a hard cherry candy topping. I was once a groom, my wife and I did cup cakes, instead of the traditional white wedding cake. It’s funny that people will have two or three cup cakes, but “oh no, I can’t have more than one piece of cake.“ But it’s okay, it’s just a cup—-cake.

Blue Bell has a creamery in Ashley Ball’s hometown in Tennessee, she was taken back to Mayberry today.

Birds Eye View

My cat Butterbean likes to perch on top of the entertainment center when I watch TV.
It is like she can’t stand when all the attention is not on her.

She climbs up the entertainment center and stares at me like a gargoyle on top of a building until I look at her.
She thinks she is fancy so, she tries to rule the living room.

Clean Air Campaign Wants You To Clean Up Your Act

April 29, 2009

When I went to do my story about saving our environment I thought it would be a quick hit and I’d be out of there. But when I spoke with the organizations spokesperson, she really made me scratch my head.

We have done so many stories about how Columbus is growing especially with BRAC and the Kia plant being so close. But you never hear people talk about how this will affect our air quality. Thousands of people equal thousands of cars.

If you haven’t noticed, (I have) there’s more traffic in certain parts of Columbus. Just the other day I was sitting in traffic thinking “traffic, in Columbus, huh?“ By the look of things, it will only get worse.

So now is the time for everyone to step up and take action by trying to preserve our air quality. From what Wanda Jenkins (Clean Air Campaign) tells me things aren’t looking too good for the Columbus area. If people don’t start taking action, there could soon be rules, inspections, and regulations in place that we will have to abide by. Some of those regulations would require drivers to cough up money as well.

If you go to the story about the Clean Air Campaign you can get more information on this cause. I was well informed today and plan to take action myself!

Peeing Cat

By Kelly O'Connell

So I don’t have any pets, but my sister does and they are not the best-behaved animals of the bunch.
Right now she and her husband are having major problems with their cat; he keeps peeing on everything in their house.
Gil, that’s his name, gets mad when anything changes in their house and to show his disapproval, he pees.
He pees on their clothes, in their bed, on the floor- just about everywhere you can think of.
So what trigged this activity?  Well, we are not sure but we think it’s because my sister is pregnant and obviously things are changing.
They have been remodeling parts of the house, getting things ready and I’m sure her mind is focused on something other than her kitty.
It’s gotten so bad that they are trying to get rid of the cat; they don’t want to but it’s gotten to a point of no return.
Once my niece comes out, my sister will have no time to check everything for pee stains or smells.
Any advice?
