If you attend Auburn’s Cityfest, you’re encouraged to bring your dogs. Great idea! If your pup’s name is not Pepper! We arrived at around 11:30 Saturday morning. The crowds were huge! I was very excited about attending and sampling all of the food and taking a look at what the vendors had to offer.
11:43 a.m. We are at the WRBL tent. I walked in and immediately became worried when I noticed two of my colleagues had brought their dogs too. When I saw the look of horror on Pepper’s face, my fears were confirmed. One look at Lucy and Chewy and Pepper starts to growl. I place him in my Delta Sigma Theta tailgate chair. I pull up a folding chair at the table to welcome children to our booth.

Several minutes later…Chewy moves. Pepper snarls.
Our bubbles display serves as a magnet for the kids at the park. One by one, sometimes in twos and threes, they came by to blow bubbles and pick up some bubble gum and a free bottle of bubbles.
Chewy moves again. Pepper snarls.
I pull out one of Pepper’s favorite treats. He declines. Needs to keep an eye on Chewy.
Chewy moves. Pepper snarls. I then grab Pepper and put him my lap. Chewy moves closer to us. Pepper snaps. Following the technique of Dog Whisperer Cesar Milan, I flip Pepper over on his back into the “calm, submissive” position. This seems to quiet him for a few minutes. Then Chewy moves again. Pepper snarls.
It’s getting hotter by the second. By now I am hungry. I go on the search for human food which Pepper can eat. I locate the Chic Fila booth. When I return to our tent, I noticed my News Director holding Pepper in her lap. I found out that in my absence, the gloves had come off. Pepper, an 11lb. part Pomeranian had taken on Chewy, a huge Australian Sheppard. I was horrified! Now, I’m plotting a quiet exit from the park. But first I have to eat.
Lucy moves towards Pepper. Now the these two are fighting. Lucy is a Terrier mix I believe. Also larger than Pepper. Spectators betted heavily on Lucy!
Time to pack up and head home now. I was amazed when Pepper actually found the car before I did!
Next year’s plan: Pepper stays home!

This weekend’s Auburn CityFest was full of fun, food, and furry friends.
News Three’s Bob Jeswald and Tim Reid were also on hand meeting and greeting visitors.
But the dogs were in demand and stealing all the spot light, and it wasn’t just Pepper.

Here are the other dogs in attendance:
Marketing Director, Shelly Matthews, brought her dog Chewie.
Marketing Writer, Ryan Mellick, brought his dog Lucy.
Sales Associate, Reggie Phillips, brought her dog Lucy.

All of the dogs were playing with one another and don’t let Pepper’s size fool you- he was playing with the big dogs and acting like he owned the place.

Mo hit the trail with me and to representatives from Backpacker magazine today!

Mo is a great trail dog but as I told you in an earlier posting Mo has a problem with distance because his legs are so short! We only went 5 miles but by 4.3 Mo was done! I think the heat and distance proved to be a major problem for my pooch but I kept him well hydrated which helped - i think!

Other than water he got treats but I am pretty sure he found enough to eat on the ground as we hiked! Anyhow he slept the whole way home and still has not woken up! I need to take him for a hike more often!

There are few times in your career you say “man, I have a great job!“ Today was one of those days. I got the chance to go on a hike with two representatives from hiking magazine Backpacker, Sheri and Randy Propsters.
The couple are in town for the magazine’s “Get Outdoor More Tour” this Saturday from 2 to 3 at the PX on Fort Benning; todays hike was a chance to get a preview of what you can expect tomorrow.

For those of you who don’t know I love the outdoors, hiking, and camping. I have always had an outdoor personality but really caught the outdoor bug while living in West Virginia. Todays opportunity to hang out and get hiking tips from Sheri and Randy was like being a kid in a candy store!

Tomorrow they will have a one-hour presentation that will hopefully educate you and make you a smarter hiker - a few tips I picked up on the trail today was to always look at your gear and take into consideration weight, comfort, and convenience. Sheri suggests women buy ladies specific gear because it makes a difference, she says ladies gear will have extra padding on the hips and even be differently shaped sleeping bags to help keep us girls be better insulated and if you are a couple when you buy sleeping bags buy left and right zippered sleeping bags so you can connect them and share body heat.
This is just a taste of what you can expect tomorrow. Not only are they giving you free information you also have a chance to win free gear!

Tonight in a special report we go inside the unclaimed property vault of the Georgia Department of Revenue.
The vault has $800 million in cash and deposits just waiting to be picked up.
The DOR asked us not to disclose the location of the vault because it’s top secret.
But, I can tell you this….it was really cool inside.
We saw everything from authentic baseball card, stamp collections, historic artifacts to jewels.
In one box, there were close to two dozen of different jewels from all over the world.
The DOL says the majority of the property comes from forgotten bank accounts and bank deposit boxes; I know i would not forget jewels if I had them.
The DOL says the average claim is $1,000 but they have seen some that reached close to one million dollars.
It’s really simple to find out if you have unclaimed property and it’s not that difficult to get it back if you do.
Check out the article on the homepage for a step-by-step tutorial on how to check and claim.
Good luck….some folks have great things just waiting in the vault.
If you do claim property and get it back, let me know….and feel free to send pictures of what you got back.
