What a Sight to Wake Up To!

Auburn homeowners living in the Tuscany Hills subdivision woke up to a surprise Wednesday morning.
Four homes on Tuscany Hills Drive were burned to the ground and a fifth was damaged.
Auburn Fire Investigators are calling the fire suspicious and say the cause is undetermined.

Investigators are now trying to figure out who owns the property and look at any evidence they can collect.
The Alabama State Fire Marshal and the Auburn Police Department are investigating the fire.
Neighbors say there were surprised to see the homes destroyed but say the homes have been sitting, without any activity, for almost a year.
I was on the scene of the fire for most of the morning and it was an impressive sight to see- the homes were torched down to the foundation.  It was hard to imagine that the homes were up less than 24 hours ago.
I can only image how long the clean up process will take…..yikes!

Monster

By Jennifer Serda

When I am home Mo has free roam of the house. He really enjoys jumping on the couch and checking out what drinks or plates have been left on the side table.

He has been caught a number of times drinking from my glass or licking off the remainder of food from a dish left on the table. Because of this I cannot leave any dishes on it.

Well the other day I set my eye glasses on the table thinking, “this should be alright they are just glasses.”

Well this was not the case!

At some point the litter monster grabbed my glasses, popped out the lens, and brought them back to me broken!

Once my anger subsided, because those are my only glasses, I began looking for the lens concerned about what he did with it. I discovered it in his bed shattered into pieces!

I was of course worried he may have eaten some of the lens so I called the vet E.R and they put my fears to rest. They said that since I did not see him ingest it he might not have and to watch his stool samples and make sure he was still eating and drinking.

Since the incident Mo is doing just fine he is happy and healthy but I am grateful I had the E.R number handy. Moral of this story - every pet owner should know where the closest pet e.r is God forbid something serious should ever happened.

A Proud Reporter

May 12, 2009

By WRBL Staff

You could call me a proud reporter, I feel like I picked a winner. Phil Scoggins and I profiled the Hunter brothers in a story on Friday. In fact we spoke with the entire Hunter clan during the begginning of the competition. Phil checked on the rankings yesterday afternoon, and I actually stood up and cheered at my desk when he read “Team Hunter” in 10th place.

The neatest part about the whole deal, Ian and Ben told us they were ultimately doing it to bond, as brothers. They told us they were already incredibly close and that this was the perfect year professionally and personally to compete in Best Ranger. Just think of the stories they will have to tell their kids!!!!!

Way to go Team Hunter and Congratulation to all the Rangers and families that participated!

Overnight Hiking Trip

By Jennifer Serda

Mo has been on his first ever overnight hiking trip! This weekend we packed our packs and tent and headed to Pine Mountain.

Mo had a great time hiking and setting up camp. He also got a special dinner for being such a good dog out in the woods, it was a mix of hard and soft food, he only gets soft food when I stuff it in his Kong and freeze it so this was a big treat for him and he licked his plate clean.

Once things got really dark Mo was on the alert he barked so much at owls and whatever moved! He finally stopped barking when we went into the tent but kept guard. He posted up on my back and every time I woke up he was there sitting straight up peering out of the tent vent.

I don’t know what time it was when I finally forced him to lay down and go to sleep, needless to day he was exhausted the next say.

Overall the hiking trip went well but when we got home it was a different story. I gave Mo a bath and despite his flea and tick meds had three ticks on him! One behind his ear, one on his leg, and the third on his tummy.

It was really gross but with tweezers we were able to remove them. Anyhow that will be Mo’s last hiking/overnight trip until tick season slows.

Since this is prime tick season if you don’t know how to remove them you need to know. So here is a helpful ink for removing them from dogs

Local Man Rides To Help Raise Money

May 08, 2009

It was amazing to see all of the people that were out at the Medical Center to support Scott Ressmeyer.

He told me he had been wanting to travel to 48 states by bike for his 50th birthday. His family and friends had planned a big birthday party for him but he told them “sorry I’ll be gone!“ Instead he asked that they help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network!

Columbus’ Motor Squad gave him a neat bell to hang on his motorcycle that would ward off evil traveling spirits. When I spoke to Scott, he got a little emotional about this cause. He told me he couldn’t put into words how it makes him feel to be able to help helpless children out.

My hope is that people get inspired by his story and donate money to a good cause.

At first I thought he would be out on the lonely road by himself but Columbus’ Motor Squad is sending someone to ride along with him. Also, each state that he goes to there will be motorcycle riders that will join him.

That sounds like a good way to ring in your 50th birthday…doing something for others instead of yourself!
