I am proud to say I got my first military coin today….from the CG at Fort Benning none the less.
Major General Michael Barbero sat down with me (and the rest of the media) to chat about his final days on Post.
He was very candid about his soft spot for Fort Benning and his reluctance to leave Columbus. He even told us he was shocked when he found out about his transfer…........ the question remains where is he going? I am not even sure he knows at this point. The General told us after the interview it’s not uncommon for this to happen. The Army announces a change of command, and then the outgoing CG has to wait for his orders. I can’t stop thinking about the packing nightmare for the Barbero’s. Six months in is likely just enough time to get settled (especially if you think you are going stay for two years), and now they have box it all back up, without even knowing where they are headed. Stress, stress, stress. But then again, if you shoot big guns and fight in the Middle East it is hardly too much of a bother.
I was amazed at how friendly the General was. Before our interview even started he took us into his office and showed us a picture of two past CG’s. He shook everyone’s hand, and before we left he followed up with a coin, reminding us if we saw him without it we will owe him a beer.
I am stashing the coin in my purse…... just in case.

Every week we here on the pet blog highlight a Pet of the Week! This weeks star comes to us from the Humane Society of Harris County.
His name is Romeo and is looking for a forever home. He is about 2 years old, litter trained, great with cats but most importantly lives with dogs!

The folks from the Humane Society say he lives up to his name; they say he is charming and affectionate to everyone.
Romeo’s adoption fee $90.00 but that includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, worming, disease testing, flea and heartworm preventative. All adoptions also come with a 30 day gift health insurance policy.

Our Chief Photographer Kevin Roble captured the moment when firefighters pulled a stranded man out of the Chattahoochee.
You can read our story and see the video here http://www.wrbl.com/rbl/news/local/article/last_minute_water_rescue/75743/
We talked to one of the firefighters on the rescue. He told us just minutes after that it was a last minute decision to make the rescue, but they are thankful they did.
Just remember (all you swimmers and fishers), if you go out on the rocks in the Chattahoochee and you do get stranded, you are not only risking your life, but the lives of the firefighters that will have to come rescue you. THINK SMART FOLKS!

Picking a name for your pet is a huge decision, in my book, and one thing I have never been good at. Growing up, I named my pets after what type of animal each one was; so there was a Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Turtle, and so on and so forth.
So, when I adopted my dog Mo I thank my lucky stars he came with a name, otherwise it would have been Mr. Dog!
His shelter name was Gizmo but I have taken it and made it my own by getting rid of the Giz and adding a Mo – MoMo.
If you are faced with a nameless pet here is a website that can help! It’s called Pet Place and has the top picks for dog and cat names to help you on your quest to name your pet!
Let me know how it goes.

(This is Callaway he is looking for a loving forever home! He is 11 months old and the Humane Society of Harris County says he is a friendly, happy boy with lots of energy and good with other dogs and children for more information check out the Humane Society of Harris County website)

News 3 received a letter from a family who are about move in two weeks; but cannot take their family pets so are asking for a loving home for the pair.
The dog’s names are Cookie and Coco. One is female the other male and both are three years old.

If you are interested in learning more write to
Below is the copy of the letter:
Even if you can ‘ t take them, please pass this around!
Young - age 3 male & female - well cared for. Family losing home. Desperate to find loving home. Already housebroken, trained, love kids, neutered, up to date on shots….what more could you ask for. But must stay together.
Contact: Katherine
“As many of you know, we are moving in just 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I have still not been able to find a good home for Cookie and Coco . We’re not able to take our beloved doggies with us and I’ve been desperately trying to find a home for both of them ‘together’. They were raised together and pine without each other. The Lab rescue have already said that they would probably separate them, so this is my last resort.
Recently I tried to take Coco out in my car alone and she TOTALLY refused to even get into the car without Cookie…..!!!! She absolutely pulled back on her haunches until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies are in great health, have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under the skin.
Cookie turned 3 December 10th and Coco will be 3 April 1st. Cookie is my mellow-yellow, and just loves her tummy rubbed. Cocois adorably funny and lives for her “ball.“ She also loves the water….. Cookie loves lots of attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They have been raised with my 3 kids running around all over the place, and have survived Sammy’s constant hugging and love of ‘dress-up’, so they are fantastic family dogs. This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but under the circumstances I have no choice.
Please, please forward these pics to all you find a great home for these fabulous doggies. They are just adorable and it’s heartbreaking to let them go. In a perfect world, I hope that we could find someone local so that we can still keep in touch and visit them. I pray that someone, somewhere can help us keep Cookie and Coco together, and love them just as much as we do. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
