The Brigade says it’s part of a push to keep friends and family updated in real time during training and deployments, something they say is successful because of the popularity of sites like You Tube, Twitter and Facebook.
PFC Erik Anderson runs the Brigade’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, “That’s where social media really hits its niche. It’s something they already use. It’s not an extra step, or a different website for them to go see. Right there in their timeline or in their news feed is the latest news of the 3rd Brigade.”
Soldiers are allowed to blog, Facebook and Twitter when they are deployed. The motto for the Army- security at the source. It means every soldier is responsible for choosing carefully what information they post online.

I have to say the 75th Ranger Regiment Change Of Command doesn’t sound like a hopping event, but if you haven’t been to a Change of Command Ceremony at the National Infantry Museum you should. It is very impressive.
Over the field you can see the rooftops of the WWII Village, and dead center- a steeple. Thursday’s ceremony lasted a little over an hour, but military speakers can be suprisingly candid, and often, quite hysterical.
On a more somber note, it is always very humbling to see families watching their soldiers on the field, or often families that no longer have a soldier to watch.
Just a note for future cermonies- you do not have to actually enter Fort Benning to watch the cermonies. You park at the National Infantry Museum (off post) and walk over to the Soldier Field.

Base Realignment and Closure at Fort Benning, also known as BRAC, is putting one area concrete plant on solid foundation.
East Coast Concrete has built a plant on post to meet the high demand for concrete. They mix for sidewalks, buildings and foundations. The company says having a location on post keeps their costs down, and it cuts out wear and tear on county roads, but most of all it keeps BRAC money local. The company says 85% of their overall business is from the US Army.
Jaime Goudi works in sales for East Coast Concrete. He says, “It’s every day work that keeps our local people involved, keeps them working, keeps food on the table. It’s supposed to be going 4 or 5 years, and they pay good.”
This concrete batch plant will continue to make concrete well after the deadline for BRAC’s completion.
In total over 3,000 construction contractors travel on and off post every day.
