Bruno is a three year old American Bulldog mix. He is exceptionally behaved and would be perfect for an apartment home or for a senior adopter. He is so housebroken and well-behaved; he lives in the adoption office full-time. He enjoys car rides and rides quietly in the backseat looking out the window. He is also very good not to beg when people are eating making him a perfect lunch companion. He frequently goes to lunch with shelter staff. He enjoys calm, older children but needs to go to a home without very young children. He likes toys and taking walks and is an excellent leash walker. He needs plenty of exercise to keep from becoming too pudgy. Please come by and ask to visit with him. Bruno is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $150.

The recently opened PAWS Humane shelter in Columbus is at capacity right now. They’re using the old shelter to house animals brought from a shelter in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The estimated thirty animals are still being assessed for their potential for adoption. PAWS workers say that several of the animals tested positive for heartworms and will now have to undergo treatment. That treatment will cost somewhere around $200 for each animal, depending on each animal’s weight. That cost does not include treatment for other health problems suffered by the animals. The animals came to be at PAWS because of a contact made during a recent pit bull raid in Talbotton, Georgia.
The first of the animals looking for forever homes will be available for adoption next week. More will become available for adoption as their health improves. Several types of dogs will be adoptable, from beagle mixes to lab mixes.
Right now, PAWS Humane is in dire need of monetary donations to help with the cost of treating the animals. They’re bringing the newcomers in to the new shelter as room becomes available. To donate, you can call PAWS at (706) 565-0035. For more information on adopting a new pet, go to PAWS Humane.

Dog treats sold nationwide are being recalled because they could be contaminated with salmonella.
The treats involved are made by Merrick Pet Care. The affected Merrick Beef Filet Squares were packaged in a 10-ounce green, red and tan re-sealable plastic bag. The “Best By” date of “111911” is imprinted on the top portion of the bag, which is torn off when the bag is opened. The FDA recommends that consumers who are unable to determine the “Best By” date discontinue use of the product.
