Meet This Week’s Dog of the Week

Missy is one of the many dogs the ASPCA assisted in removing from deplorable living conditions at a shelter in Mississippi and moved to other rescues to have a chance at a better life. Over 400 animals were found living in an area designed to hold about 60. The conditions can be best told by a volunteer who assisted in their rescue: “Well, you would have to see it to believe it. Inside a small building were about 80 dogs, some in kennels on the wall, some on the floor, as many as eight in together, outside as many as six stuck in kennels who would fight and eat each other. One of the paid employees said his job was to pull out the dead ones the others killed during the night. I cannot tell you the conditions, the urine, the feces. The dogs on what was called æthe row’ inside had never been outside the six months they had been there. I knew this was true of the two I had worked with because their muscles had atrophied.“ The horrendous scene described took place inside of an animal shelter in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Several of the dogs have made their way to PAWS Humane where they are being cared for until they are adopted. All of these dogs will need special attention and lots of extra love for they have seen far worse conditions than the good majority of us can even fathom. If you are willing and able to accept one of these dogs into your heart and give them a home for life, please contact our adoption center today. They will appreciate it forever.

Meet This Week’s Cats of the Week

PAWS Humane

Meet This Week’s Cats of the Week

Velma and Daphnie are 5-year-old light grey tabby cat sisters that came to the shelter when their owner became very ill. They are very sweet and well mannered. They get along well with other cats and dogs and do not mind being picked up. Their fur is very soft and they enjoy affection. They are declawed so they must be indoor cats. They are litter trained, spayed, vaccinated, and accustomed to the sights and sounds of a household. Velma and Daphnie have never been separated and spend their days enjoying each other’s company. Since they are so bonded, we have a special adoption fee of $125 to adopt both of these sweet girls together.

PAWS Pet of the Week

Bruno is a three year old American Bulldog mix. He is exceptionally behaved and would be perfect for an apartment home or for a senior adopter. He is so housebroken and well-behaved; he lives in the adoption office full-time. He enjoys car rides and rides quietly in the backseat looking out the window. He is also very good not to beg when people are eating making him a perfect lunch companion. He frequently goes to lunch with shelter staff. He enjoys calm, older children but needs to go to a home without very young children. He likes toys and taking walks and is an excellent leash walker. He needs plenty of exercise to keep from becoming too pudgy. Please come by and ask to visit with him. Bruno is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $150.

Snickle is a 9 month old black and white tuxedo cat who has practically grown up at PAWS Humane. She has been at the shelter since she was just a kitten. She is friendly toward both cats and dogs and would fit well in a home with a family that has other pets. She is curious and playful and always looking for a place to explore. She seeks attention and wants to interact with people and cats alike. Snickle is spayed, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. Snickle’s adoption fee is $100.
