Sticks Update 3: Plans For Sticks Next Year

April 17, 2009

By WRBL Staff

Good news for country fans who can’t make it to Parker Hill this weekend. This afternoon the owner of the property Jim Parker told me they are already setting a date for next year, and Parker says he hopes the festival can attract even more big names.

I made it on stage again, thankfully before the perfomances started.  I interviewed the “Sticks Chicks”, three gorgeous girls helping to promote the festival. They said they travel around the country going to different events. What a job huh?

As for the music, Whiskey Falls just took the stage a little while ago, that means things here at Sticks have officially kicked off!  I lost track of the cowboy boot count a long time ago…...........

Oh yeah, click on Comments below to watch my video!

Sticks Update 2: The Countdown Is On

By WRBL Staff

The countdown is on.  Crews are still working on last minute prepartions to the stage and backstage area.

I think we have figured out where our press passes can take us and where they can’t.  The back up plan, just do it and then gracefully bow out when they escort you out of the area.  I will let you know how that goes.

I have to let you in on another personal victory- I have hitched two golf cart rides already, as a journalist used to walking with a thirty pound camera and a gigantic steel tripod any wheels are a plus!

And it looks like I will have to fight the crowds soon enough. Rumor is roughly 10,000 tickets have already been sold online, but the event staff is hoping that most of the ticket sales goes down at the gate.  I will work on getting more concrete numbers.

Folks from all over are slowly trickling in. I just met two representatives from GAC (I am a big fan).  They tell me they are filming performaces for segments to air later.

Stay with us for a tour of the backstage area coming soon!

Sticks Update 1: We Staked Our Claim

By WRBL Staff

Sticks Update 1: We Staked Our Claim

Success is ours, or John Walker’s really.  John is the News 3, Opelika Auburn News internet gooroo and he just wrestled two tents.  I watched.  Things were a bit more complicated than I anticipated.

Our tents are parked a couple hundred yards from the stage and we have a great view of the port-a-potties.  The site was my choosing so everyone can blame that one on me.

Dozens of RV’s and tents are already up.  In fact, we already met our “neighbors”. They helped us wrangle our tents in the wind.

No celebrity sightings yet, but I am hopeful.

Check back soon, we’ll have more behind-the-scenes information!

Flea and Tick Pet Products

This is from the EPA / (Washington, DC - April 16, 2009)

Butterbean does not like bugs one bit!

(Washington, DC - April 16, 2009) “The U.S. EPA is intensifying its evaluation of spot-on pesticide products for flea and tick control for pets due to recent increases in the number of reported incidents. Adverse reactions reported range from mild effects such as skin irritation to more serious effects such as seizures and, in some cases, the death of pets.

Flea and tick products can be appropriate treatments for protecting your pets and your family’s health because fleas and ticks can transmit disease. While many people use the products with no harm to their pets, EPA recommends that pet owners take precautions when using these products. People should carefully follow label directions and monitor their pets for any signs of an adverse reaction after application, particularly when using these products for the first time. Pet owners may also want to consult a veterinarian about the responsible and effective use of flea and tick products.

Incidents with flea and tick products can involve the use of spot-on treatments, sprays, collars and shampoos. However, the majority of the incidents reported to EPA are related to flea and tick treatments with EPA-registered spot-on products. Spot-on products are generally sold in tubes or vials and are applied to one or more localized areas on the body of the pet, such as in between the shoulders or in a stripe along the back. This advisory pertains only to EPA-registered spot-on flea and tick products; these products have an EPA registration number on the label.

Health Canada has identified similar concerns about the use of spot-on flea and tick products. Health Canada and EPA will meet shortly with spot-on product manufacturers to address the issue, including whether further restrictions are necessary to protect the health of pets”.

This is from the EPA / (Washington, DC - April 16, 2009)

Some flea and tick products are drugs that are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine, here is a link to that website:

FDA

Site Reccomended by the EPA:

National Pesticide Information Center

Environmental Protection Agency
