Meet This Week’s Cats of the Week

Velma and Daphnie are 5-year-old light grey tabby cat sisters that came to the shelter when their owner became very ill. They are very sweet and well mannered. They get along well with other cats and dogs and do not mind being picked up. Their fur is very soft and they enjoy affection. They are declawed so they must be indoor cats. They are litter trained, spayed, vaccinated, and accustomed to the sights and sounds of a household. Velma and Daphnie have never been separated and spend their days enjoying each other’s company. Since they are so bonded, we have a special adoption fee of $125 to adopt both of these sweet girls together.

By having your pet spayed/neutered in February, you can also register to win a 6 day/5 night vacation, with hotel and airfare for two.
And on Friday, a spaghetti dinner will be held to raise money and awareness in the fight against pet overpopulation. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, and drinks, plus a tour of the facility.

PAWS Pet of the Week

Bruno is a three year old American Bulldog mix. He is exceptionally behaved and would be perfect for an apartment home or for a senior adopter. He is so housebroken and well-behaved; he lives in the adoption office full-time. He enjoys car rides and rides quietly in the backseat looking out the window. He is also very good not to beg when people are eating making him a perfect lunch companion. He frequently goes to lunch with shelter staff. He enjoys calm, older children but needs to go to a home without very young children. He likes toys and taking walks and is an excellent leash walker. He needs plenty of exercise to keep from becoming too pudgy. Please come by and ask to visit with him. Bruno is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $150.

Snickle is a 9 month old black and white tuxedo cat who has practically grown up at PAWS Humane. She has been at the shelter since she was just a kitten. She is friendly toward both cats and dogs and would fit well in a home with a family that has other pets. She is curious and playful and always looking for a place to explore. She seeks attention and wants to interact with people and cats alike. Snickle is spayed, current on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative and micro-chipped. Snickle’s adoption fee is $100.

PAWS Humane in Columbus Takes in Animals from Mississippi

January 29, 2010

The recently opened PAWS Humane shelter in Columbus is at capacity right now. They’re using the old shelter to house animals brought from a shelter in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The estimated thirty animals are still being assessed for their potential for adoption. PAWS workers say that several of the animals tested positive for heartworms and will now have to undergo treatment. That treatment will cost somewhere around $200 for each animal, depending on each animal’s weight. That cost does not include treatment for other health problems suffered by the animals. The animals came to be at PAWS because of a contact made during a recent pit bull raid in Talbotton, Georgia.

The first of the animals looking for forever homes will be available for adoption next week. More will become available for adoption as their health improves. Several types of dogs will be adoptable, from beagle mixes to lab mixes.

Right now, PAWS Humane is in dire need of monetary donations to help with the cost of treating the animals. They’re bringing the newcomers in to the new shelter as room becomes available. To donate, you can call PAWS at (706) 565-0035. For more information on adopting a new pet, go to PAWS Humane.
