Georgiou Looking To Pro Debut

Columbus, GA - When you graduate from college, you are supposed to have a job lined up. But with the economy of today, lots of college graduates are looking for work, but none of them have a swing like Andrew Georgiou.

The former Columbus State golfer makes his pro debut in two weeks, July 15 in North Carolina on the Tarheel Tour. It's a step below the Nationwide Tour which is the minor leagues of the PGA. He plays two tournaments on the Tarheel Tour before heading to Texas for three more Hooters Tour events.

"The margin is so close right now," Georgiou said. "I think being able to focus on just golf is the link I was missing. A couple more hours on the putting green, and working on my game, I'm excited."

Georgiou finished his senior season making the All-Conference team and leading the Cougars with a 72 stroke average. Columbus State was ranked number 1 for much of the season, and finished the season placing third at the National Championship.

"Graduation was bittersweet for him," CSU head coach Mark Immelman said. "It's an end of era for him here, and he has had a fantastic career, and I fully expect him to be a hall of fame eventually. And it's the clse of the chapter, but I think he is ready to go now."

"I'm excited to move on to the next part of my life. College has been great, a great place to play. Mark has been a great coach. I'm gonna miss the team vibe, I feel like I'm a team player, but I'm excited."

During his final season Georgiou had ten finishes in the top 20, eight in the top ten, and three time in the top five including a second at the Outback Invitational.

"I tried to look at my last couple of tournaments as a pro, as far as preperation," Georgiou said.

"Andrew is a very confident and talented young man," Immelman added. "He has what it takes to play at the pro game, but he needs to relaize that it is a lot of hard work. He was so talented that he could do just enough and still beat folks, and he knows he is going to a different level in talent, and he has what he needs. He knows the battle and the grind that is ahead and I know he is ready."

No matter how far golf takes Georgiou, Columbus State, will never be far behind.

"His teammates were joking with him as we came back from Seattle (NCAA National Championships) and they said 'you know the lessons now you start paying for them,' because he is not a Columbus State golfer anymore."
