October 13, 2009 (COLUMBUS)- The Columbus Lions are proud to announce the addition of Ed King to their coaching staff. He will serve as the offensive and defensive line coach for the Lions 2010 season. King was an offensive tackle who has over 10 years of professional football experience. He was the 29th pick overall in the 1991 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played with the Browns from 1991 to 1993 under the direction of head coach Bill Belichick and Nick Saban, and later moved on to play for the Green Bay Packers, and New Orleans Saints. Ed also made stops in NFL Europe for the Barcelona Dragons and spent time later in his career in the Canadian Football league and the Xtreme Football League.
Collegiately, Ed attended Auburn University and played for legendary coach Pat Dye where he was rated as one of the top five offensive lineman in the country.
After retiring from football in 2001, Ed began a career in sales and marketing before moving into teaching and coaching. Most recently he has taught mathematics and assisted the coaching staff at Central High School in his hometown of Phenix City, AL.
King will lend his playing and coaching experience to a solid Lions offensive line that ranked third in the league in sacks against giving up 14 on the season and a defensive line that ranked second in sacks with 36. “Bringing in Ed was a top priority for us. Our line play was above average on both sides of the ball last year but I am confident that we can get these guys to another level with Ed here,” stated Head Coach Jason Gibson.
