The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF0 tornado with wind speeds between 50 and 60 mph touched down in northwest Lee County Sunday afternoon.
More than 500 homes in Chilton, Limestone, Madison, and Tallapoosa Counties in Alabama were affected in some way by the tornadoes and severe weather that came through on Friday.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are taking Emergency Response Vehicles to the affected areas to distribute meals, water and clean up kits to families in need.
On Saturday, January 21, 2012, storm damage occurred in a section of North Columbus. After notification, Public Services surveyed the area and determined there were 12 to 15 trees down in the right of way, with more on private property on Hubbard Rd., Moore Rd. and in the Heiferhorn and Cherokee Hills subdivisions. Additionally, there were 15-20 private trees down in the area of Arapahoe Ct. and Chickasaw Ct.
